The Path Forward
To better accommodate the growth in Warren County RA Consultants partnered with Warren County Lower Little Miami WWTP to increase system capacity and enhancing the County’s ability to meet qualitative EPA requirements. RA served as the resident project representative (RPR), planning, and design services for a $30M expansion to increase the treatment plant’s capacity from 7 million gallons a day (MGD) to 12 MGD (an approximate 70% increase).
RA performed planning and design of both the return and waste activated sludge systems and conducted the site survey. RA performed the construction inspection and was responsible for overseeing the work of multiple disciplines including Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Painting. The project included the construction of a new preliminary treatment building (2,500 sq. feet), a third aeration basin (“Vertical Loop Reactor” – 20,000 sq. feet), two new 110-foot diameter clarifiers, secondary sludge pump station (1,500 sq. feet), blower and chemical feed facilities, UV disinfection and post aeration (2,500 sq. feet), and refurbishment of sludge holding tanks. The Phase III Upgrade provides for not only an expanded capacity of 12 MGD, but also an effluent quality improvement to a total phosphorous effluent level of 0.5 mg/L and possible future biological nitrogen removal.
